a taste of what's to come

have I mentioned that I'm scared? I'm most definitely outnumbered and am sure to be outmaneuvered (wow...that's actually a real word!). I'm finding that even in a house as small as ours it is hard to keep track of everyone's location. The sad thing is only one of them is walking. I guess I'm doomed, need to get eyes in the back of my head...and sides, or have tracking devices installed/attached.

Maybe I've forgotten because it's been almost 4 years since Alexa was this age. Or like the pain of childbirth I blocked it out...only keeping the fond memories. I'm constantly picking up stuff, pulling someone out of a room they shouldn't be in (bathroom is a favorite followed by big sister's room), or sweeping someone's mouth for whatever they managed to find to eat (not hard when your big sis is dropping everything behind her as she goes...much like a tornado). Keeping up with them is exhausting and it's only going to get crazier as we spend more time outside and they become even more mobile. At least when they eat the stuff outside there might be some nutritional value...right?

It is awesome to see how they all interact with each other though. Sometimes I wonder if the twins even realize the other is there. I mean...they don't purposefully crawl over each other and intentionally pull on the other's body parts...do they? Every now and then they make eye contact and have a little laugh...sometimes it sounds like an evil laugh. Ok...maybe that's just the exhaustion speaking to me.

hmm...someone's awake again. I think Jake is getting some more teeth. He's incredibly cranky and fussy. Wait..nope it's Liz. It's probably dawned on her that she is alone in the crib with her brother.

Before I rescue her I have to share these pictures I took today. They are the reason I titled this post the way I did!

today

Another day gone by in the blink of an eye...or so it seems. Every day has begun to have some sort of order to it - and it all seems to revolve around naps. We were blessed with the fact that Alexa would nap anywhere as a baby. It's not so easy to do that when there is more than one. I suppose I should be happy they are crib sleepers...at least during the day.

We actually made it outside today. It was beautiful this afternoon so I got everyone dressed and headed out. Our first stop was at my old office. Alexa did her usual "I need to be the center of attention" gig. She made the mistake of interrupting Dorie and did not like the result (I want to learn that trick..I'm not even sure what she said but it ended the interruption). Our next stop was Sue's house. Alexa always has to stop in...and it always leaves me feeling rude. She wasn't home but her husband and daughter were. I had to speak to Alexa several times about trying to take their rocks.

The fresh air seems to have worked wonders because everyone was asleep within minutes of getting into their beds. Now if I could only go to mine...too much laundry and dishes and picking up to catch up on.

One thing that did happen that I'm not too happy about is the fact that Jacob swallowed something from Alexa's backpack. I had gone into my room to look for Elizabeth (who had gotten herself stuck in our closet). When I went back into the other room he was gagging on it but nothing came up and nothing was found when I swept his mouth. This is becoming a daily occurrence - I think I need to update my Heimlich abilities!

Happy Easter

We had a busy but very productive Easter Day!

Since J and E decided to wake up early I made everyone get up. We were able to make it to the 7:30 am church service...even arriving about 5 min early. Going to the early service meant we were able to have breakfast there and catch up with people. It also gave us a few hours of downtime before our next event.

Which was lunch at the super toasty Macaroni Grill. Good food but they need to turn the thermostat down about 40 degrees. I had to strip J and E down to their onsies so they wouldn't bake. Lunch was to celebrate Easter as well as Kayla's birthday. It's always nice to be able to get the entire family together. Too bad it doesn't happen more often on my side of the family.

All the kids did pretty good. And all went to bed easy. Alexa spent the afternoon at Grammy Karen's and was more than ready for bed when she got home!

anyone want a kid (or 2 or 3)

Just taking a minute to vent. I hate winter. And I really, really, really hate germs. Once again I've got a house of sickies. Me and all 3 kids have gotten colds. I blame myself - I dared venture into public with them last week. Now I've got runny noses all around and some seriously fussy babies. Hopefully I've got enough tissues...

So not only are we fussy because of our colds but today Jacob and Elizabeth have managed to knock each over, crawl over each other and get stuck mid-crawl, plus Jacob shut his fingers in the filing cabinet (note to self...figure out how to childproof that). While all this is going on Alexa is happily painting away. She did good - only some on the walls but that was easy to wipe off.

I suppose I should get back to "work". Too much crying leads to lots of snot.

an early Happy Easter

from the Easter Bunny, Jacob & Elizabeth

hello from the lion's den!

To answer first as to why I've given this blog the title I have - it's courtesy of Alexa and her current infatuation with the Lion King. If you asked I can probably sing all of "I just can't wait to be king".

I'm going to give this a try and see if I can't keep more up-to-date on what's going on in our world. I have a feeling it's just going to get crazier as time goes on - activities for Alexa, first birthdays, and of course the campaign season and election.
